Senior Product Engineer - API Platform

Vitable is a health benefits platform focused on delivering accessible, high-quality healthcare solutions to uninsured and underinsured workers. The Senior Product Engineer - API Platform builds and maintains backend infrastructure powering the Benefits and Care API Platform. This role combines backend and full-stack development, API design, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver scalable, mission-critical systems that support innovative healthcare benefits solutions.

Vitable is seeking a Senior Product Engineer - API Platform to design and maintain the infrastructure powering its Benefits and Care API Platform. This remote role focuses primarily on backend development while contributing to full-stack features as needed. The position requires strong product ownership, technical leadership, and the ability to solve complex, ambiguous problems that directly impact business outcomes and healthcare accessibility.  

Responsibilities:  
- Partner with business stakeholders to understand product challenges and define technical solutions.  
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems supporting the API Platform.  
- Ensure high-quality API design, documentation, sandbox environments, and API key management.  
- Contribute to frontend feature development using component-based frameworks when required.  
- Lead end-to-end implementation of large, ambiguous projects from design to release.  
- Promote engineering best practices through clean code, reviews, and mentorship.  

Requirements:  
- 3+ years of professional software development experience, preferably in startup environments.  
- Proficiency in Python and strong understanding of API platform best practices.  
- Experience with component-based frontend frameworks such as Vue or React.  
- Solid knowledge of software design patterns and programming principles.  
- Strong SQL skills, particularly PostgreSQL and data model design.  
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration abilities.
