Healthcare Billing Claims Specialist

Sandstone Care is a behavioral health treatment provider specializing in addiction, mental health, and co-occurring disorder treatment for teens and young adults. This role supports the billing team by managing insurance claims, verifying benefits, resolving billing discrepancies, and ensuring timely reimbursement. The position focuses on accurate data entry, claims processing, collections, and collaboration to improve billing practices and revenue performance.

Sandstone Care is seeking a Healthcare Billing Claims Specialist to provide comprehensive billing support to its remote billing team. This temporary 1099 assignment plays a critical role in ensuring accurate claims processing, timely reimbursements, and proper documentation of client and insurance information. The specialist will work across multiple systems, maintain high levels of accuracy, and support revenue cycle operations in a fast-paced healthcare environment.  

Responsibilities:  
- Input and maintain accurate client, insurance, attendance, and coding data in multiple systems  
- Verify insurance benefits and ensure correct billing data prior to claims submission  
- Submit, correct, resubmit, and follow up on insurance claims and appeals  
- Resolve billing inconsistencies and delinquent data in coordination with the billing team  
- Navigate insurance payer systems to obtain accurate coverage and claim information  
- Generate revenue through payment arrangements, collections, and account follow-up  

Requirements:  
- High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred  
- Coding certificate or associate degree in business or healthcare administration preferred  
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting required  
- Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding required  
- Strong PC and application proficiency  
- Ability to manage high-volume work with speed, accuracy, and effective negotiation skills
