This freelance Adobe InDesign Typesetting Specialist role supports a modernizing independent publisher by owning the production work that connects editorial content with final design. The position plays a critical role in reducing production bottlenecks by ensuring content is accurately typeset, styled, and prepared for senior designer refinement, while maintaining high standards of typographic consistency and file organization.
Responsibilities:
- Import editorial content into Adobe InDesign templates and apply master pages and styles.
- Ensure typographic consistency by matching fonts, spacing, and layout conventions.
- Prepare clean, well-organized InDesign files for handoff to senior designers.
- Accurately implement proofreading and copyediting corrections and verify changes.
- Review grammar, spelling, and formatting in coordination with editors and style guides.
- Perform preflight checks and quality assurance prior to publication or handoff.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe InDesign focused on typesetting and layout.
- Strong written English skills for proofreading and applying copyedit corrections.
- Experience working with templates, styles, and master pages in InDesign.
- Ability to collaborate remotely using Google Workspace and Slack or Google Chat.
- Availability to work full-time, Monday through Friday, 10 AM–6 PM Eastern.
- Reliable home workspace with required hardware, internet speed, and backup systems.
