Staff Frontend Engineer

Vannevar is a defense technology company building AI systems to support national security operations. The Staff Frontend Engineer role focuses on designing and implementing mission-critical frontend applications for the Decision Advantage platform, working with cross-functional teams to transform complex intelligence requirements into intuitive, actionable user interfaces that support defense and intelligence decision-making.

Vannevar is seeking a Staff Frontend Engineer to advance its Decision Advantage platform, providing defense operators and intelligence analysts with comprehensive situational awareness. This role is mission-critical, requiring the design of intuitive, high-quality user interfaces for information analysis and visualization, while mentoring other engineers and shaping frontend practices across the organization.

Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and ship frontend applications using TypeScript, React, Tailwind, and Node.js.
- Collaborate with customers, mission owners, designers, and engineers to translate workflows into effective UI solutions.
- Contribute to core libraries and frontend tooling used across the organization.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers in frontend development best practices.
- Help define and shape the product’s future and overall user experience.

Requirements:
- Eleven or more years of professional frontend software development experience.
- Expertise in TypeScript and React with advanced understanding of state management, performance optimization, and application integration.
- Strong eye for design and ability to produce elegant, user-friendly UIs.
- Proven experience as a senior engineer or tech lead, including mentoring and guiding other engineers.
- Strong customer focus and product intuition.

Nice-to-Have:
- Experience with backend APIs, Node.js, Postgres, and OpenSearch.
- Active security clearance or ability to obtain one.
- Willingness to travel onsite quarterly for user research and debugging.
