Newsela is seeking a meticulous and organized Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This role is integral to the smooth operation of our accounting processes, including month-end close, financial reporting, and internal controls. The Staff Accountant will handle a variety of accounting functions and contribute to improving the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations.
Responsibilities:
- Perform bank reconciliations, accounts payable processing, and 1099 reporting.
- Maintain expense reporting software, review reports, and manage the credit card program.
- Account for and report fixed assets accurately.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations and analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing tasks, including journal entries and preparation of work papers.
- Support internal control development and participate in process improvement initiatives.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or closely related field.
- At least 2 years of accounting experience, preferably with exposure to Big Four public accounting or audit.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with NetSuite, Concur, Bill.com, Ramp, or similar accounting software.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Analytical mindset and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
