Job Description

 

GitLab is seeking a Developer Relations Engineer to join the Contributor Success team and enhance the efficiency and success of the GitLab contributor community. The role combines fullstack development skills with community engagement, coaching, and project management to enable contributors to effectively participate in GitLab’s open source projects. This position directly impacts thousands of developers and contributes to a vibrant, productive community while operating in a remote-first environment.


Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage contributor success projects to improve community engagement and output.
- Coach and guide cohorts of community members on technical and non-technical contributions.
- Track and analyze contributions to measure progress and identify improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate with Programs teams on Education, Open Source, AI tooling, and Contributor initiatives.
- Advocate for improvements based on community feedback to enhance contributor experience.
- Participate in GitLab’s merge request coaching team, specializing in development, testing, or documentation.
- Facilitate Contributor Success team stand-ups and agile processes to ensure alignment.
- Travel to customer sites to onboard and support new contributors.


Requirements:
- Experience with Ruby and JavaScript, demonstrating fullstack development proficiency.
- Strong knowledge of Git and source control systems, including contribution workflows.
- Proven involvement in open source communities and contributions to recognized projects.
- Ability to coach and mentor community members on technical and non-technical aspects.
- Effective communication and public speaking skills.
- Self-motivated, organized, and capable of independently managing projects.
- Comfortable working remotely and asynchronously across distributed teams.
