The Accountant will support the financial operations of an Australian mining company by managing daily accounting activities and maintaining accurate financial records. This role is responsible for ensuring reliable reporting, timely processing, and strong financial controls while collaborating with internal stakeholders across operations and management. The position suits a detail-oriented accounting professional comfortable working independently in a remote, contractor-based environment aligned with Australian business hours.
Responsibilities:
- Process supplier invoices accurately and in a timely manner
- Reconcile supplier statements and investigate discrepancies
- Set up and maintain supplier accounts and accounts payable records
- Process employee expense claims and credit card transactions
- Prepare and schedule regular payment runs
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and maintain general ledger accuracy
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing and reporting activities
Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a financial or general accounting role
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Proficiency in accounting systems such as Pronto or Dynamics 365 and Microsoft Excel
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and strong organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently
- Effective communication skills for coordination with internal teams and suppliers
