Job Description
Umpisa Inc. is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer focused on building robust data pipelines, API integrations, and backend architectures that scale with high volumes of data. You will design solutions that reliably move data between systems, implement rate limiting and caching strategies, and build fault-tolerant processing flows using queues and other orchestration patterns. This role supports the company’s mission to elevate the Philippines as a global tech hub by delivering production-grade engineering and data infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Architect and implement backend systems and data orchestration pipelines for high-throughput workloads.
- Design and maintain API integrations with awareness of rate limiting, retries, and backoff strategies.
- Implement caching layers, message queues, and buffering to ensure reliable data flow.
- Optimize database interactions and analytical query performance with appropriate storage choices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design scalable data solutions and operational runbooks.
- Participate in code reviews, incident response, and continuous improvement of platform reliability.
Requirements:
- Strong backend development experience with Node.js and Express and familiarity with API architectures.
- Demonstrable experience operating APIs at scale and designing resilient data pipelines.
- Familiarity with AWS services and cloud infrastructure patterns for scalability and reliability.
- Strong problem-solving skills, systems thinking, and ability to work under uncertainty.
- Experience with analytical databases such as ClickHouse or similar is a plus.
- Comfortable working in a self-organizing Scrum team and aligning with product and client needs.
