The Member of Technical Staff, Research will design and develop advanced AI models for scientific reasoning. This role focuses on research, experimentation, and implementation of cutting-edge machine learning techniques to support autonomous scientific exploration.

FirstPrinciples is seeking a Member of Technical Staff, Research to contribute to the development of an autonomous AI system for scientific discovery. This role involves researching and building advanced AI models capable of reasoning across scientific domains. You will collaborate with engineers and researchers to design scalable systems that push the boundaries of AI-driven research.

Responsibilities:
- Research and develop advanced AI models for scientific reasoning and discovery
- Design novel architectures integrating NLP, symbolic reasoning, and multimodal data
- Build data pipelines for scientific datasets including literature and experimental data
- Develop and evaluate benchmarks to measure model performance and reliability
- Run and monitor training processes while optimizing performance and cost
- Collaborate with teams to translate research into production-ready systems

Requirements:
- PhD in computer science, physics, or a related field
- Experience in AI/ML research and model development
- Strong understanding of deep learning, NLP, and data infrastructure
- Ability to design and evaluate complex machine learning systems
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams
- Experience working in research-driven or startup environments
