Technical Writer

Allen Control Systems (ACS) is a defense startup developing autonomous counter-drone systems that integrate robotics, computer vision, and embedded control technologies. Founded by former Navy electrical engineers, ACS builds advanced hardware solutions for government and defense customers. The Technical Writer will develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, translating complex engineering concepts into compliant publications for operators, field users, and government stakeholders.

Allen Control Systems is seeking a Technical Writer to develop and maintain technical documentation for its autonomous counter-drone platform. This role supports engineering, operations, and government stakeholders by producing clear, accurate, and compliant documentation covering robotics, computer vision systems, and embedded control technologies.

Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with engineers and leadership to gather technical information on robotics, hardware, and embedded systems  
- Create operator manuals, user guides, maintenance procedures, and safety documentation  
- Develop government-facing deliverables compliant with DoD and MIL-SPEC standards  
- Document hardware assembly, wiring diagrams, and system integration procedures  
- Support proposal development with technical narratives and statements of work  
- Manage version control and ensure documentation consistency as products evolve  

Requirements:
- 3–7 years of technical writing experience, preferably in defense, aerospace, robotics, or hardware environments  
- Familiarity with DoD documentation standards, ITAR compliance, and MIL-SPEC guidelines  
- Experience managing technical illustrations, schematics, and system diagrams  
- Proficiency with tools such as Adobe FrameMaker, MS Office, Confluence, or XML editors  
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail  
- Ability to manage multiple deliverables in a fast-paced startup environment
