Job Description

 

Sporty is seeking a Backend Software Engineering Team Lead to guide architecture, development, and delivery of scalable backend systems within a remote-first environment. This role combines hands-on engineering with team leadership, ensuring high-quality microservices, strong collaboration, and continuous process improvement. You will oversee technical design decisions while mentoring engineers and driving performance across the development lifecycle.


Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a backend development team, fostering a high-performance engineering culture
- Participate in architectural design and decision-making for scalable microservices systems
- Drive end-to-end development from requirements gathering through deployment
- Conduct code reviews and promote best practices in code quality and system design
- Manage team performance, work allocation, and career development initiatives
- Improve development processes, CI/CD pipelines, and operational reliability


Requirements:
- 8+ years of backend development experience, including Java or similar technologies
- 2+ years of leadership experience mentoring engineers and managing performance
- Strong expertise in microservices architecture, REST APIs, and distributed systems
- Experience with Spring Boot, message queues, relational and NoSQL databases
- Familiarity with cloud-native infrastructure, Kubernetes, and AWS environments
- Excellent English communication skills for remote collaboration
